One of the most popular of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote’s striking vistas feel like stepping onto another world. Loved by generations of Irish holiday makers, the island continues to exert a pull for sun chasers, thrill seekers and families alike.

Lovin’ Lanazarote

We just can’t get enough of Lanzarote. Its wild volcanic landscape is totally captivating, its beaches are amazing, the food’s great and with so much to do there’s never a dull moment.

We especially like how family-friendly the island is. First off, Lanzarote has great weather with the average year round temperature hitting 22°C. Next, it’s just a short flight from Dublin to Lanzarote’s major airport – it takes a little over 4 hours to get there. For small kids that’s not too bad!

There are so many activities here perfect for the whole family. We’ve put together a list of our favourite highlights.

Lanzarote Beaches

  1. Lazy days on the sun-soaked beaches

Your Lanzarote holidays would not be complete without spending time on one of its spectacular beaches.

Chances are you would’ve done this anyway but we just couldn’t help include it – especially for families with younger kids, you’ve got your choice of beautiful, safe beaches. Some of the standouts include the Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca, the Playa Bastian in Costa Teguise, the Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen and so much more. Wherever you stay on the island, you’re sure to have a great beach right by.

Take a Camel Ride

  1. Take a camel ride

Timanfaya National Park is a truly spectacular example of Lanzarote’s unique volcanic landscape. And the best way to take it in is with a bumpy camel ride! These are great for older children although if you have a baby or small child with you, you can swap the camel out with a more comfortable bus tour around Timanfaya.

Head to a Water Park

  1. Splash around the water park!

The Aquapark Costa Teguise is one of Lanzarote’s biggest water parks. It’s packed with slides, pools, and fun activities like zip lining, paint balling and racing. What’s on offer varies depending on the season, so take this into account when planning your holidays to Lanzarote.

Visit Rancho Texas

  1. Step into the Wild West at Rancho Texas Park

Totally worth checking out for any family holiday in Lanzarote, the Rancho Texas Park has the rustic frontier charm of an old Spaghetti Western. It’s the biggest zoo on the island for one thing, with loads of amazing animals to visit. There’s plenty of rides to enjoy, too.

History + Heritage

  1. Soak up some heritage and history

Lanzarote has its fair share of modern resorts but you can’t visit without taking some time to see its rich cultural heritage too. The renowned artist César Manrique left his mark all over the island – why not see his work at the Fundación César Manrique gallery?

Lanzarote Aquatic Life

  1. Visit the aquatic life

The kids will love exploring the undersea flora and fauna with a ride on the glass-bottomed Atlantic Adventure Boat. And, if you’re feeling really adventurous, how about a trip in a submarine? Can’t get more exciting than that!

This list is just a small taster of all this island has to offer. See our website to get some amazing deals.

If you do decide to visit Lanzarote, you’ll find plenty to do. Here’s a few other highlights we like:

  • The Cactus Garden in Costa Teguise – make some spiky new friends!
  • The Pirate Museum, also in Costa Teguise
  • Go spelunking in the Cueva de Los Verdes
  • The hustle and bustle of Puerto del Carmen resort
