Watch the sunset in Santorini

Santorini holidays

Looking for a holiday filled with incredible views, good food and breath-taking sunsets? Look no further than the Greek island of Santorini.

Like everyone else, I had Santorini on my bucket list since travel bloggers became a thing, and our Instagram feed was filled with the famous sunset picture of blue and white buildings.

Of course with these beautiful views, the world and its sister wants to head to Santorini. So we decided the best time to visit is October, when the weather is still warm and the crowds are thinner.

I knew I wanted to visit the island, but where to stay was the main question. Oía for its well-known sunset views or the hustle and bustle of Fira? Instead, I settled on the dreamy village of Imerovigli, nestled between Fira and Oía. This hidden gem offers the best views of the caldera without having to fight off tourists to get your famous ‘Santorini Sunset’ Instagram.

When booking a hotel, I was looking for somewhere that could offer beautiful views, a relaxing pool area and cute interior design – and that is exactly what Sarah Fleming at Cassidy Travel recommended with the Senses Boutique Hotel. The clever exterior design of this hotel gives guests different areas to choose from to either catch some rays on the sun loungers, sit poolside on a comfy chair or read your book privately under the trees. All of which give spectacular views of the caldera. A picture says a thousand words so I will let the below do the talking:

Did I mention - a breakfast basket is brought to your room each morning! Complete with freshly squeezed orange juice and some tasty pastries, my boyfriend and I were ready to explore and adventure each day.

From boat trips to driving around on quads, there are lots of things to do in Santorini. I would recommend renting a car, buggy or quad to explore the whole island which can easily be done in a day. There are lots of beaches to explore namely: Perissa, Kamari and Perivolos. Alternatively, you can explore the island by sea with many boat trips offering the chance to explore the volcanic island and swim in thermal waters.

After working up an appetite, there are a variety of restaurants to choose from. My favourites are Angoi, Aegean and Onar to name a few! It is worth booking a restaurant down at Amoudi Bay in Oía during your stay for some amazing seafood while dining literally out at sea!

To finish off your evening of dining and move onto the wining – there are many bars and cocktail spots on the island. In Fira, you will find lively bars to dance the night away (my favourite was 2 Brothers.) In Imerovigli, enjoy a cocktail while soaking up the last of the sunset in Five Senses or the Aqua Mare Restaurant.

With spectacular views at our hotel, many nights we returned back to our private terrace to take in the island views under the stars. Sounds romantic right? Santorini is a beautiful island and perfect for couples looking for a sunny getaway.
